Thingy...

Oh, what to write about? I know I should write something. I haven't written in a while now, and it's probably not a good habit for me to get into.

Well, here's an idea. How about a piece on publishing industry news?

Science fiction author and physicist Travis S. Taylor announced that his forthcoming nonfiction book "An Introduction to Planetary Defense" (BrownWalker press) will be released some time in the next month or so. The book was coauthored by Bob Boan, R. Charles Anding and T. Conley Powell. If I manage to procure a copy, I'll post a review.

Publisher Jim Baen (Baen Books) has been a busy beaver lately, foraying into both the science fiction/fantay e-magazine market with Jim Baen's Universe magazine and signing on Tom Doherty Associates ("Tor" imprint, etc.) to his non-DRM ebook sales site, Webscription.net.

Author John Scalzi has posted an excellent anti-DRM article on his blog, "Whatever". The e-book version of his Tor book "Old Man's War" is tentatively scheduled to be published via Webscriptions in June.

"Universe" is currently in the e-ARC stage for issue #1. Its expected release date is June 1, 2006.

According to insider sources, the Tor website is currently undergoing a major revision.
